Longsheng Rice Terraces during Golden Week

We visited the Longsheng Rice Terraces during Golden Week which is probably the busiest time of the year! Nonwithstanding all the company it was a wonderful day. Our guide, Lilly Lu, is very familiar with the area and shared much history and insight with us. She was also a great cheerleader the few times we started to falter in our will power to continue and quite often pointed out fantastic views when we were paying more attention to our feet than the scenery!

Like other reviewers have pointed out the hike is not bad if you take it slow. We had lunch half way up at a lovely restaurant with english menus. There are many restaurants, hostels and vendors selling their wares. One treat were the girls dressed in local costume who would pose with you for pictures for 10rmb. That’s 10rmb each and they cluster around once you agree to a photo shoot.

We did a day trip to the terraces from Yangshuo. It would have been better to spend the night on the mountain.
