Lijiang Waterfall Hotel, Guilin

One cannot beat the location of this hotel, adjacent to the night market, shopping and the pier for the river cruise, which is a must for visitors.

Breakfast is reasonable but not too exciting . We ordered drinks from the bar but they came in pop cans for juices and beer.

The waterfall shows only occur on the weekends and we missed the action as we only stayed during the weekdays.

The hotel can use a major renovation , starting with changing out carpets in the hallway and better lighting and the re-arrangement the facilities throughout. One should not expect to see the entrance way to the health club at the front entrance of a great hotel. More importantly, the hotel may need to undergo major overhaul in hotel management if it wants to have a strong presence internationally.

Check in is relatively interesting as the we were charged a refundable 500RMB upfront to the credit card for incidental for prepaid guests. Check out is even more interesting with a two way radio confirmation for room check to ensure no mini bar usage prior to the credit card refund, that’s on top of the complete non line up system at the front desk. The local tourists does not seem to accustom to a first come first serve basis and surprisingly , the front desk staff seemed to accept this protocol and yet able to manage.

For securing valuables, I would recommend the use the safe in the front desk as opposed to the safe in the room. The safe in the room is not secured to any permanent structure and is small enough to be packed away a larger suitcase.

We have requested luggage storage and what it meant was left in an open area to be monitored by a bellman provided he is not pre-occupied. However nothing was missing from our group.
